Charity match raises €20,000 for LauraLynn
THE organisers of a charity match presented a cheque for €20,000 to children’s charity LauraLynn outside Jacob’s pub in Saggart on Tuesday.
The donation consisted of the proceeds from the League of Ireland Legends match and a raffle that was held in Roadstone in Kingswood a fortnight ago.
Among the players who lined out for the League of Ireland Legends team were Hoops manager Stephen Bradley, Stephen McPhail, Jason Byrne, Richie Baker and Dessie Baker.
They competed against the Jacob’s Pub All-Stars, and the match was watched by over 200 spectators who witnessed the nail-biting game which ended with a score of 4-3 to the League of Ireland Legends.
The event was organised by four local men, Graham Keane from Citywest, Robert McCarthy from Rathcoole, and Mark Hutchinson and James Doyle from Saggart.
However, the main aim of the game was to raise funds for LauraLynn, with the charity gratefully receiving the cheque for €20,000 this week.
Liz Quinn, community fundraiser at LauraLynn, told The Echo: “We are thrilled with the support Jacob’s Pub has given us this year and so honoured to be chosen as their charity.
“The committee has worked incredibly hard, giving up their free time and dedicating it to this wonderful event. We are amazed by their efforts.
“Thanks to all the organisers, Jacob’s Pub, the sponsors and all those who supported the event which will truly have an incredible impact on the lives of the children and families that LauraLynn support across Ireland.”
Reflecting on how the event went, organiser Graham Keane previously told The Echo: “I’m very happy with the amount of money that was raised, it’s a tough thing to do but it was enjoyable.
“I’m very proud of all of the people who were involved. I also want to say a huge thank you to everyone that helped to make it happen.
“Without them, we wouldn’t have been able to do it – we were just steering the bus. It was a huge effort, and the generosity of people was unbelievable.”
