Child hospitalised after dog jumped on her in new playground

A YOUNG girl was hospitalised after a dog jumped on the terrified tot at the new playground in Stanaway Park, Crumlin.
The new children’s play area in the park was completed in March by Dublin City Council, and caters for children between two to seven years of age.
However, Sinn Féin Councilor Ray McHugh said a couple of minor issues need to be addressed in order to ensure the facility is safe for kids.
Cllr McHugh said: “I got a call from a worried mother last week, telling me pups jumped up on her daughter while she was in the play area. The mother had to bring her to hospital, the cut had gone septic.”
At the Dublin South Central area meeting last week, Cllr McHugh called for a perimeter fence to be installed in the park to prevent dogs accessing the play area.
“Something needs to be done. There has been more than one case of dogs jumping on kids. At the tunnel in the play area, there is a piece of wood sticking out at the front.
“My own little fella nearly bumped his head on it when he was running through the tunnel. Problems will occur with that – it’s about three inches by six.”
“The area manager assured me that they would install fencing at the play area and look at the tunnel.”
