Children’s Book Festival launched in South Dublin County Libraries

Last week, Councillor Paul Gogarty, Mayor of South Dublin County launched the Children's Book Festival which will run throughout the month of October.
The Festival will give children lots of chances to meet writers and illustrators such as Oisin McGann who was on hand to chat to First Class in St Thomas's NS about writing and illustrating his own books.
This included drawing one of his well-known characters Mad Grandad and then getting help from students to draw a special monster created by their own imaginations.
Throughout October, children of various ages will also get the chance to ask writers like Joe O'Brien, Amanda Bell and Tom Palmer about why they started writing and where they get their ideas from.
Booking for all Children’s Book Festival, excluding Red Line Book Festival events, has been open since 18th September.
Schools can book by ringing the library where the event is scheduled. Parents may book children’s events that take place out of school hours.
The Red Line Book Festival which runs from October 11 to 15 includes a Red Line for Schools programme which features theatrical pieces such as There and Back Again, an adaptation for children of the Odyssey; Big Goldilocks and the Three Bears Plus, a hilarious re-telling of one of our favourite fairytales and Clann Lir, a staging of the Irish legend featuring puppetry.
There is also a very special event – The Big Picture – hosted by Laureate nÓg, PJ Lynch. These events are opening for booking on www.redlinebookfestival.com.
Families will also get a chance to enjoy Big Goldilocks and the Three Bears Plus in Lucan Library on October 14.
There are also many other fun events for children and families such as plays, puppetry and hands on workshops such as The Curious Adventure of Pinnochio in the Civic Theatre Tallaght; a delicious Death by Chocolate storytelling and chocolate craft workshop; as well as the Myth and Monsters of Harry Potter.
