Christy Broe Scratch Cup success for Karl
Karl Murphy nailed his first Pitch & Putt Scratch Cup as he won the inaugural “Christy Broe” Scratch Cup in Kimmage on Sunday.
The event renamed after the Old County stalwart and legend who was inducted into the Pitch & Putt Hall of Fame in 2009 was on hand with his family to present the cup to Karl.

Karl was in second place after 36 holes one shot behind clubmate George McGreal and George’s brother Gary was third also -14.
The trio proved to be the top three on the day after 54 holes with Karl rolling in a 10 foot putt across the 18th green to seal the win.
It was the perfect response after narrowly missing out on the Dublin County Board John Smith Scratch Cup at the same venue two weeks ago. Players from Kildare, Meath, Tipperary, Louth and Dublin flocked to the Kimmage venue to be a part of this special day for Christy and the rain that blighted play throughout the opening 36 holes cleared to bright sunshine for the final round.
Elsewhere Dublin finished 3rd in the Under 16 Leinster Inter County in Navan finishing two shots behind holders Westmeath and ten shy of the hosts Meath.
The event was washed out the previous weekend, but despite missing out on the top prize there was strong performances from local players like Luke Devlin, Oisin Horan.
The under 16 section continues to make great strides this year under the stewardship of new Under 16 Officer Shane Devlin.
The Leinster Inter County for Inter / Junior ladies and gents now takes place this weekend after it fell foul of the weather on 10th August in the Royal County.
