Calls for sweeping changes to Clonburris SDZ plans
By Brendan Grehan
THE CLOSING date for Councillors to submit proposed changes to the Clonburris SDZ draft was last Sunday, January 14.
Local councillors have been meeting with local residents and groups in the last week to discuss changes to the draft plan.
The Clonburris Lucan Action Group have called on local residents to contact their local representatives if they have concerns over the draft.
A Spokesman for the group told The Echo: “The closing date for councillors to submit their motions is this Sunday, January 14. We are asking residents to contact their chosen councillor this week they are representing you on this plan which can make or break our area.”
Local Councillor Liona O’Toole has been meeting with local groups to discuss the issue. She describes the Clonburris SDZ as “the biggest task to date” as it will have an impact on Lucan residents and surrounding areas”.
She told The Echo: “In recent weeks I have been engaging in discussions with these two groups, Newcastle Road Residents and Clonburris Action Group. I held a meeting on Friday with the group and met with Lucan Sarsfields to discuss the plans. I had a long meeting with Lucan and Clondalkin residents in the council offices and discussed the concerns of the residents.
“I will be meeting with school management to discuss aspects of proposed school sites. I will continue my work with these groups over the coming weeks.”
Councillor Mark Ward is calling for “major amendments” to the draft.
Ahead of the deadline for Councillors to table motions to amend the draft plan Cllr Ward described the Managers Report on the 606 submissions as very disappointing.
Councillor Ward said: “The Managers Report was very disappointing. The changes that were suggested were minimal. People and groups that made submissions feel let down by the process and that their concerns are not being addressed.”
Cllr Ward is calling from “sweeping modifications” to the plan.
He said: “We have an opportunity to shape the way housing is delivered on the Clondalkin and Lucan area. The SDZ must be designed to meet the housing need of existing and future communities. 26 per cent of the land zoned for development in the SDZ is Council land. We will be at a minimal seeking 26 per cent social housing in addition to 10 per cent of the remaining properties through the part 5 planning process.”
He said he will be seeking 25 per cent affordable housing in Clonburris.
He added: “As it, the SDZ, stands I will not be supporting it unless there is major amendments made.”
