Clondalkin councillor calls for action to eliminate cable ties

POLL topper in the local elections Francis Timmons, who did not use any posters during his campaign, is calling for action to eliminate cable ties and introduce “designated poster area zones”.

“I’m asking the community to lobby all the elected councillors in SDCC to support my motion for the July meeting on election posters.

“We are in a climate emergency and we must act to do anything we can as elected members,” said Timmons (Ind).

“If we are serious about climate change we must act, we are limited as a council what we can do but this is one area we could as a council lead on.”

Timmons exceeded the quota (1,601) with 1,988 first preference votes in the Clondalkin local electoral area, and has been out and about to remove cable ties left behind by other candidates.

”One use cable ties along with mass waste after each election is enough to make us act and come up with alternatives.

This along with many Tidy Towns groups poster free zones and the publics views should show us it’s time to act.

”Please email all councillors and let your views be known.

“I also took down a lot of one use cable ties that candidates had left on poles after they removed their posters, even though I didn’t use any posters in the recent election. We really need to get rid of one use cable ties in particular.”

Timmons wants the council to “lead by example” and introduce “designated poster area zones” in consultation with local Tidy Towns groups “either billboard type or electronic screen type.”

He also wants the council to bring back a headed item on options for discussion and vote by elected members.
