Clondalkin father gets four months jail for seriously assaulting his daughter

A FATHER who seriously assaulted his daughter leaving her with bruising was jailed for four months by Blanchardstown Court.

Judge David McHugh heard that the man assaulted the girl leaving her with severe bruising to her face and bruising to her legs and body.

The 37-year-old man, who has an address in Clondalkin, pleaded guilty to assaulting his daughter causing her harm at his home address on March 3, 2016.

Garda Thomas Conway told Judge McHugh that on March 3, 2016, the victim called into Ronanstown Garda Station with her mother and reported that she had been assaulted by her father at his home.

He said the girl had a number of bruises to her face.

Garda Conway said the man had no previous convictions.

Judge McHugh asked what was the extent of the victim’s injuries.

Garda Conway said she had severe bruising to her face and bruising to her legs and body.

The man’s solicitor, John O’Doherty, said his client had no previous convictions and was very sorry for what had happened.

Judge McHugh said that while he accepted that Martin was sorry he said that “there is no peace without justice”.

He sentenced Martin to four months jail.
