A balloon release in memory of Cian Marren was held this month at St Anne’s GAA Club.

Hundreds of young boys and girls gathered to honour the life the ‘lively, energetic’ six-year-old from Bally-cullen who tragically died after being hit by a van in July.

CIAN BALLOONS

September 2nd marked the first day back for St Anne’s Macra, a kindergarten for children aged between four and seven, with football for both girls and boys.

Adam Doran, assistant coach for the Macra, attended the memorial. He said the turnout for the event was ‘fantastic to see’.

“It was a real show of a united club,” he said. “There were hundreds of kids there. [Cian’s father] Liam spoke and gave words of encouragement to the kids.

“It was really touching.”

When asked how Cian’s friends and former classmates handled the serious tone of the day, he said: “Kids will be kids. They like to bate around a field playing football, but they all stood silently when Liam was speaking and released the balloons quietly.

“Everybody misses Cian. All the kids and all the coaches.”
