Cluid buy 13 Balrothery houses

A NEW 13-house development in Balrothery is believed to have been bought by approved housing association Cluid, The Echo has learned.

The hoarding has come down from around the new estate, which lies on lands bounding Tallaght Road, Castletymon Road and Balrothery Estate.

The finishing touches are currently being made to the estate which, made up of 13 three-storey homes, is believed to have been sold by the developer to Cluid Housing.

The Echo understands that Cluid, which is now the largest housing association in the country, is expected to seal the deal in the coming days with an estimated price of €300,000 per house, Cluid’s investment would amount to €3.9 million (Echo estimation).

When contacted by The Echo about the Balrothery development, a spokesperson for the approved housing association said: “Cluid Housing is not in a position to comment on the aforementioned site at present.

“However, Cluid will continue to work in 2020 to deliver high-quality, sustainable housing across Ireland.”

Cluid Housing was also unable to confirm the name of the estate, however, on South Dublin County Council’s Choice Based Letting (CBL) system the development is currently going by the name of Balrothery Rise.

The Choice Based Letting Scheme enables housing applicants to make decisions over where they live and tenure choice (council, voluntary and leased homes).

The council advertises homes available to let to eligible housing applicants on their Choice Based Letting website.

As with all of its housing schemes, Cluid Housing will work with the local authority, in this case South Dublin County Council, in allocating the new social homes – with Cluid managing the estate going forward.

When asked about the 13 new homes in Balrothery, South Dublin County Council told The Echo: “Some properties in the new social housing development by Cluid at Balrothery were advertised through the council’s Choice Based Letting system in October 2019, with allocation offers made during November and December 2019.

“In addition to properties made available through CBL, offers are also made to medical, homeless and transfer applicants for new social housing developments.”

The development hit headlines last March when locals called for the preservation of a mature and long-standing walnut tree on the site.

While a number of trees were felled to pave the way for the new estate, the walnut tree has survived the chop and remains standing within the new estate.
