Coláiste Bríde make it through to All-Ireland Schools League Final

COLÁISTE Bríde will be represented in the All-Ireland Schools Basketball League Finals for the very first time after their Under 16B Girls team, last week, beat Sacred Heart, Tulla-more and Abbey Vocation- al, Donegal to reach the final against Manor House.

Taking place later this month in the National Basketball Arena, the decider will also see the Clondalkin side bid to exact revenge on their opponents who beat them by just five points in the East Regional title match back in December.

Coláiste Bríde have secured their place in the All-Ireland Schools Under 16B League Final

Coláiste Bríde will feel they have every chance of taking that final step on the road to the national prize having enjoyed an impressive campaign that saw them beat Heart by 13 in the quarter finals.

This was followed up with a tighter 42-36 point victory over Abbey Vocational in the last four in which Aoibhin Dunne and Abbey O’Keeffe turned in very strong performances.

Big displays were needed to stave off a strong second quarter revival by their opponents and secure their berth in the All-Ireland decider.

“We’re very lucky with the players that we have” said Coláiste Bríde coach Martin O’Keeffe. “A lot of them play with Dublin Lions and we have two players on the Ireland Development panel, Abbey O’Keeffe and Katie Flanagan.

“I always knew they had great potential and since I had them in first year I kept saying to them that if they work hard and have that self belief they can win whatever they want to win” he told The Echo.
