It is proposed that the works, which will be located off Esker Drive in Lucan, will consist of a new 5,616 sq. m extension to accommodate a special education needs unit, a PE hall and a teaching space.

The submission includes plans for the temporary relocation of on existing pre-fab during the construction works.

A new vehicular entrance off Esker Drive also forms part of the application, which will result in the existing entrance becoming an exit only point.

There are provisions for minor alterations to the elevations and arrangement of functions to the existing school building.

It is proposed that site works will also include the arrangement of six ball courts, a secure play area for the special education needs education unit and the creation of a secure link to adjacent parkland.

Plans for 92 permanent car parking spaces and 100 bicycle spaces are also included in the application.

Four third party submissions were lodged on the application, one of which was in support of the overall development, and three of which raised concerns about the potential for increased traffic congestion as a result of the proposed development. The council granted permission for the development on July 19.
