Community projects benefit from over €40,000 in funding
OVER €40,000 in funding has been awarded to community environmental projects in the county by the Government and South Dublin County Council.
The funding recipients span the county, with funds going to a variety of projects, including €1,600 to Kadoo Arts’ Recycle Magic project, to educate national schools on the importance of being environmentally aware, and €1,400 will go to Niall O’Dwyer Mad Professor’s school workshops.
Other projects that will be funded in the county include €1,850 for Turas Training Ltd’s plans for community gardens and horticulture project, while Aoife Munn will be the recipient of €3,000 to fund tidy towns and day community workshops.
Art and education resource store Plastic Planet will receive €1,980 to educate pupils about the overuse and overconsumption of plastic, while Bishop Shanahan National School has been awarded €1,000 for the creation of an outdoor classroom.
In total, 40 projects in the county have been awarded funding for their environmental endeavours.
Minister Katherine Zappone said: “Whether protecting and supporting the local bee population, cleaning up green areas and better school gardens, the successful projects will make our communities better places to live.
“It is a tribute to local volunteers that 40 projects in the South Dublin County Council area have received funding – with half the money coming from central government and the rest coming from the local authority.
“The projects involved may be small in scale, but their impact will be very important.
“Each will create awareness that if we are serious about tackling the big environmental challenges of our time that the first steps must be taken at home and in the community.”
