Concerns over development at former Vincent L Byrne site

IT WAS a case of standing room only in the Palmerstown Community Centre when the Riversdale Riverview and OLR residents group and the Palmerstown Community Council organised a meeting to discuss the proposed development at the Vincent L Byrne site.
As it stands An Bord Pleanála are currently deciding on whether the proposed 305 apartment development at the former Vincent L Byrne site can be assessed as a Strategic Housing Development (SHD).
The proposed development comprises 305 apartments in two blocks ranging from to three to eight storeys with ancillary facilities including gym, community/recreational rooms and crèche at Palmerstown Retail Park, Kennelsfort Road Lower, Dublin 20.
The development will increase the amount of dwellings in Palmerstown Village by 100 per cent with almost 1,000 extra residents and with no plans to change the main junction.
A resident told The Echo: “It was standing room only which is similar to what it will be like if the development goes ahead. Most people accept that the site needs to be developed. It is just the size of the proposal with eight storeys.
“There is no change to the main junction which is the last set of traffic lights in Dublin before the West of Ireland. It is proposed that there will be 300 apartments with all those cars coming out at the junction.”

Interested parties have until October 10 next to submit their observations on the plans to An Bord Pleanála.
