Councillor Liona O’Toole had put down a question for an updated report of current progress on the swimming pool project following media and social media reports that the project could be delayed. She also asked the Chief Executive to “detail any possible risks that could cause delay”.

The Council replied: “The closing date for the main contractor's stage 2 tender for the Lucan Swimming Pool was September 24, these tenders are currently being assessed. There is an additional tendering process for the associated specialist contracts and this should be completed by November 2018”.

The Council added that a report will then be submitted to the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport for approval to proceed with the appointment of the contractors to move the project on to the construction phase.

They said: “It is envisaged that the project build will commence in January 2019. Risk assessment, mitigation and management is a key and ongoing part of the management process during planning, procurement and implimentation of the project.”

Located in Griffeen Valley Park, the main pool will be on three levels and the smaller pool will have a moveable floor so it can be used by people with reduced mobility. The complex will also have a gym, a new

Exercise and Training Centre, and a Café. There will also be landscaping and public realm improvements to allow for 108 car parking spaces and 88 bicycle parking spaces.
