Monday’s meeting heard that there was a high level of support from the local community for the Firhouse project despite the fact that they will be rapid build instead of traditional housing.

The County Architect told the meeting that he expected that the project would be completed by the first quarter of 2018.

There were six submissions on the site for Firhouse including two from councillors. with concerns about the preference for traditional over rapid build units, the allocations policy, the social mix of the development, traffic management, the management of the development when constructed and the number of pedestrian entrances.

The site was praised for the amount of amenities already within the area, as the site is part of an established community. Councillor Emma Murphy said she thought the development “looks fantastic”.
