Council hope to carry out urgent repair works on swimming pool

EQUIPMENT to repair the hydraulic arm of the swimming pool in Clondalkin Leisure Centre is set to be delivered within the next three weeks.
Once the equipment arrives, South Dublin County Council hope to carry out the works “urgently” based on availability of their engineering and dive teams.
Independent Councillor Francis Timmons, says he expects the pool to be “fully operational within the next few weeks.”
“Since May, Clondalkin Leisure Centre has been experiencing problems with its boom, a mechanical device which is used to divide the pool into the shallow and deep areas – with the boom acting like a wall that can be moved up and down,” said Cllr Timmons.
“I have had a lot of people onto me in relation to pool provision. Bespoke equipment is currently being fabricated in the UK and will be fitted when ready. I hope this issue can be resolved in the next few weeks and I have been working with SDCC to resolve the issue.’’
South Dublin County Council did not provide a cost of the repair works to The Echo.
A spokesperson for SDCC said: “We have been advised that the current lead time for the fabricated bracket and guide block is approximately three weeks. They will then look to schedule works urgently based on the availability of both their engineering and dive teams.”
In December, The Echo reported that the local authority finalised an agreement with their consultant Engineers, Arups and Europools on required works to fix the hydraulic ramp.
At the time, SDCC said the firm who originally installed the movable floors at the pool have ceased trading, and there is no connection between the company and the current company who service the system.
