Couple devastated after thieves ransack home

A COUPLE in their sixties have been left ‘unsettled’ and ‘devastated’ after a large quantity of expensive jewellery was stolen from their home in Tymonville, Tallaght, on Saturday afternoon (January 2)..
The married couple, who want to remain anonymous, went to a local supermarket at 3pm on Saturday (January 2), for approximately one hour, and when they returned to their home they found their bedroom ransacked and all of the lights left on upstairs.

The burglars had forced entry through the front door of the house, and appeared to have headed straight for the couple’s bedroom.
They stole a number of items of jewellery, including a men’s gold buckle ring, a gold Leeds United ring, a red sapphire ring, a white gold cluster engagement ring, a thick white gold wedding band, a pink Michael Kors ladies’ watch, and a Guess diamond bracelet watch.
Some of these items hold great sentimental value for the couple and are irreplaceable.
The couple’s daughter, who also asked to remain anonymous, told The Echo: “The burglars went into my parents’ bedroom, ransacked it and took what was valuable.
“My mam is devastated over her jewellery being taken, she’s not sleeping or eating.
“My dad has a history of heart problems and he’s been having chest pains [since the burglary]. Now they’re afraid to leave the house. They’re unsettled.”
Among the items which were stolen were a number of irreplicable pieces of jewellery, including wedding bands and a diamond engagement ring from the 1970s, and some items which were passed down through the family.
“To the people who took these things, it’s probably just a few quid and they’ll sell it and get it melted down for gold,” added the couple’s daughter, “but they don’t realise the sentimentality of the things they’ve taken.
“We just want to alert people to the fact that this has happened, and we want them to be vigilant.”
A garda spokesperson told The Echo: “Gardai are investigating a burglary that took place at a residence at Tymonville in Tallaght on Saturday, January 2, 2020 at approximately 3pm.
“A number of items were reported stolen following the incident. No arrests have been made at this time. Investigations [are] ongoing.”
Enquiries by gardai in the local area identified two males that gardai wish to speak to.
One man was described as being in his early twenties, with short dark hair, and he was wearing a red gilet over a white/grey hoodie, and black bottoms
The second man was also described as being in his early twenties, wearing a dark rain jacket, dark bottoms, and with short dark hair.
Superintdent Ian Lackey of Tallaght Garda Station told The Echo: “If anyone noticed these two in the area acting suspiciously on Saturday afternoon, the gardai at Tallaght would like to speak to them.
“Of particular significance is that the jewellery was taken in a pillow case belonging to the injured party, and that pillow case may be discarded somewhere in the area.
“It is a white pillow case with a green trim.”
