TALLAGHT Swim Club’s Niamh Coyne has certainly made her presence felt at the World Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, finishing fifth in the 50m Breaststroke Final.

Her time of 32.02 saw her finish just one place behind compatriot Mona McSharry in what was another great night for Irish swimming.

Both competitors won their respective heats, with Coyne advancing to the semi final in fifth place after which she produced another superb performance to finish second in her race and advance to the final in fourth overall.

Her fifth place finish in the final was made all the more remarkable by the fact that she has not been rested for this event due to the fact that it has come in the midst of a busy training period for her.

Indeed, the Tallaght swimmer will be competing in the World Short Course Championships in China this coming December along with fellow Tallaght swimmer Brendan Hyland.

The youngest member of that squad, Coyne will ultimately be targeting qualification for next summer’s World Championships when she lines out in the Irish Open in April.
