Cyclist died due to crush injuries after road traffic collision

A cyclist died due to crush injuries following a road traffic collision, an inquest heard.
Ryan McCarthy (25) from Grangebrook Avenue, Rathfarnham, Dublin 16 was cycling at around 1.30pm on November 17 2017 when the incident happened.
The case was heard in the Dublin Coroner's Court
He sustained fatal injuries in a collision with a road sweeper truck at Whitechurch Road in Rathfarnham.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. A garda investigation into the man’s death is at advanced stage.
Detective Inspector Liam Kelly told an inquest into Mr McCarthy’s death at Dublin Coroner’s Court that he expects the file to be submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions in the next two weeks.
Health and Safety Authority (HSA) Inspector Kevin Broderick said the HSA is conducting a separate investigation into the incident and is liaising with Terenure Gardai.
The man’s mother Stephanie McCarthy formally identified her son at Tallaght Hospital to Sergeant Brian Flynn before an autopsy was conducted.
Consultant Histopathologist Dr Barbara Loftus gave the cause of death as crush injuries due to a road traffic collision.
The man was from a competitive cycling family, with relatives involved in mountain bike, off road and track events.
DI Kelly applied for a six month adjournment of the inquest and the coroner adjourned the inquest for further mention on October 4 2018.
