CYM women secure Leinster title
CYM Women’s Rugby team banished the pain of last year’s defeat to Tullamore in their Leinster Women’s League Division Two play-off after they edged out Tullow 5-0 in the very same fixture this season at Donnybrook on Saturday.
Tullow, unbeaten in 16 of their previous league games, crossed the CYM whitewash in the first half when the youthful Cats Gallagher went over, but the referee ruled out that score, leaving it scoreless at the break.
The pivotal moment for CYM came, five minutes into extra time, when fullback, Brenda Healy, crashed over from close range after she was crisply-fed from a scrum five metres out.
CYM have, this season, acquired a cohort of new players, doubling the size of the original squad.
And it has paid off, with the Division Two title win paving the way for Division One rugby next season.
