Dancing with the Stars – Local celebs to take part in this year’s show
By Leopold Herter
Local celebrities Mary Kennedy and Michael Carruth have been announced as participants in the upcoming season of RTÉ’s ‘Dancing with the Stars’.
The full line-up of 11 contestants will team up with professional dancers to compete for the glitter ball trophy at the end of the series.

They will be asked to perform different dance styles in each show with only just a week of practice.
Starting on Sunday, January 5 the series runs for 12 weeks. Its participants are already excited.
“I’m really looking forward to it, I’m quite petrified, but I’m looking forward to learning new dances and doing something different,” said Clondalkin’s Mary Kennedy.
“I’ve always been a fan and I’ve come out to watch the live show every year it’s been on so, now it’s time to pony up and put my money where my mouth is . . .”
One of the rivals of the former TV presenter will be Olympic gold medallist boxer Michael Carruth.
The Walkinstown man had mixed feelings when he got the call to do Dancing with the Stars.
He was “a little bit delighted, a little bit excited and a little bit nervous.”

But his excitement is stronger than anything else.
“I hope it’ll teach me how to dance, you know what I mean?
“I’m one of these lads who normally goes to a party and all the girls get up and dance and all the boys sit down, so yeah!”
But one thing Carruth is not looking forward to is getting a spray tan, a thing he probably cannot escape from throughout the weeks.
