Dancing with the Stars – Mary Kennedy and Michael Carruth did us proud

It was Movie Week on Dancing With the Stars with Clondalkin’s Mary Kennedy and Walkinstown’s Michael Carruth – attempting cinema-worthy routines in front of the judges and making it safely through to the next stage.
Former boxer Michael Carruth took to the floor with a fitting performance to ‘Eye of the Tiger’ from Rocky III, alongside dance partner Karen Byrne from Ballyfermot.

After they finished their Paso Doble, Michael admitted: “Rocky was an underdog, and I’m an underdog.”
Michael scored 14 points from the judges with judge Julian saying: “What I would love to have seen from you, because the music worked, I would have liked to have seen a little bit more of that shaping. You are going places, keep up the good work.”
Loraine said: “Congratulations to Michael and Karen, you are making progress. I would have liked a little bit more arching on the body. It wasn’t quite the knockout but it was a win.”
Clondalkin’s Mary Kennedy scored an impressive 19 points from the judges, along with partner John Nolan.
The pair danced an American Smooth to timeless Disney classic ‘He’s a Tramp’, from Lady and the Tramp, complete with a romantic plate of spaghetti to kick off proceedings.
Following her dance, Mary said: “It was fun. John explains really well beforehand what’s going to happen. It’s so exhilarating.”

Even though John is originally from Kilkenny, he would be familiar to local people as he has also runs top Latin dance school Xquisite Dance in Walkinstown for the last five years.
First to take to dance floor was Brian Dowling, with partner Laura Nolan from Lucan.
The pair performed an energetic Charleston to Fat Sam’s ‘Grand Slam’ (from ‘Bugsy Malone).
However in what was a shock departure for Glenda, the TV presenter became the second celebrity to be sent home from the show.
Glenda was sent on her way after scoring 18 points for her contemporary ballroom routine to ‘My Heart Will Go On’ from Titanic with partner Robert Rowinkski,
Speaking about her experience on the show, she said: “I got to dance with these fabulous people, and that’s what it’s all about.”
