Darren pulling no punches for solo album release

A SUCCESSFUL amateur boxer turned folk musician has just released his first solo album, which encompasses folk music rooted in Irish, Scottish, English and American traditions.
Ballyfermot man Darren Lynch was a successful amateur boxer with Crumlin Boxing Club in his teens, but now the 37-year-old is focusing on bringing his new album ‘The Spinning Wheel’ to the masses.
‘The Spinning Wheel’ features intricate bouzouki work by Darren, with Derek Copley on banjo and mandolin duties and Ais Conway Keogh on the fiddle.
The talented musician, who lists The Dubliners and The Fureys as influences, told The Echo: “I have been working on the album for over a year.
“This is my second album, but my first solo album.
“I previously released an album in 2012 as part of the folk duo, The Feekers.”
The Feekers are just a part of the rich tapestry of musicians that Darren has played alongside over the course of his career so far, he has also been a part of The Broadside Merchants, So-Ranna and Tam-Lin.
The Ballyfermot man has also earned his chops as a live musician, with a host of performances to his name in places including The Ballyshannon Folk Festival, Dublin’s Grand Folk Club and Howth Trad Fest, with ‘The Spinning Wheel’ marking his first solo release.
