By Stephen Leonard

RUA Red in Tallaght will provide the venue for the launch of the new Darts Academy Ireland this Thursday, February 8, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

Academy co-ordinator Keith O’Neill is looking to bring on board boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 18, some of whom will make the cut for the Junior World Darts Championships in Bristol in December.

The Academy, which is affiliated to The Junior Darts Corporation (JDC) which, itself, is partnered with The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), will provide a grading system that will allow for a three-grade selection totalling some 40-50 players.

These players will be trained every week for some 40 weeks with a number of them contesting All-Ireland qualifiers throughout the year.

As part of the Academy launch, three of Ireland’s top junior players Keane Barry, Killian Heffernan and Tallaght’s own Katie Sheldon will play some exhibition matches on the night in Rua Red.

Anyone looking for more information can attend the launch or contact Keith O’Neill at 085 1631292.
