Darts tournament helps raise €3,350 for Our Lady’s Hospice
PATRONS of the Penny Black Tavern in Castletymon raised €3,350 for Our Lady’s Hospice as a result of a darts tournament that was held in the pub in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
The Christmas Darts Tournament, which was organised by Joe Kavanagh and Mick Morris, was held on Friday nights across six weeks and was open to all to take part.
The final occurred on Friday, December 15, which saw competitors battle to win the competition while a raffle with a collection of enticing prizes was also a feature of the night.
Organiser Joe Kavanagh, who lives in Castle Park, told The Echo: “The tournament had been running for a few weeks prior, then we had a big night with entertainment and a big raffle.
“It was a great night all round, the atmosphere was electrifying, and people did dig deep for the hospice.
“The hospice in Harold’s Cross seems to have a big liking with a lot of people in Tallaght, and all the money raised will go to their care services.”
Joe proudly presented a cheque for the €3,350 raised to Ann Julian from Our Lady’s Hospice Harold’s Cross on Monday morning, in the hospice.
“The amount that was raised, I’m absolutely blown away by it,” said Joe. “In this day and age, and in the current climate we’re in, for people to give a few pounds to something like this is incredible.”
