Davis girls bring home their share
THOMAS Davis had plenty to celebrate in girls football last weekend.
While their Under 13 team was pipped by Round Towers of Lusk in the Division Four Shield Final, their Under 14 and 15 teams enjoyed champion-ship success.
Thomas Davis Under 15 Girls team celebrate winning the Division Four Championship title
The Under 14s carded a thrilling 10-4 to 6-12 victory over Whitehall Colmcille in the Division Three Championship Final in Lawless Park on Sunday with the midfield partnership of Emma Kennedy and Tori Fitzgerald providing a strong platform for Katelyn Murray, Jade Riordan and Danielle Walsh in attack.
While Whitehall kept the scoreboard ticking over on their part, it was the Davis' girls who led 4-1 to 0-4 at the halftime break.
With a wind advantage for the second half White-hall upped their game and were awarded a penalty.
Davis’ goalkeeper Faye O’Neill parried the strike but was unfortunate to see the loose ball planted home at a second attempt.
While Whitehall tried to turn the screw on the Davis defence over the closing 20 minutes, substitute Aimee Collins scored an excellent goal to keep the Tallaght girls in front.
Yet, the northsiders finished the second half strongest, scoring 1-2 to force extra time in which they continued on to race out of the blocks, scoring 2-1.
Excellent defending from the Davis’ full back line of Emma Phillips, Mia Macari and Amy Lynch kept Davis in the game and a super point from Aimee Collins from an acute angle, and a goal from Jade Riordan had them right back in it.
They continued to press with a Katelyn Murray goal early in the second half of extra time while Captain, Rebecca Leigh and Grace Byrne marshalled the defence well.
And late scores from Dana Brennan and Saoirse Byrne ensured the cup was heading back to Kiltipper.
It was a lot more comfortable for the Thomas Davis Under 15s as they stormed to a 5-5 to 0-3 victory over St Pat’s of Donabate in the Division Four Championship decider.
Early points from Kaitlyn Murray set the tone for this match which saw midfielders Emma Kennedy and Meghan McGarry provide an excellent launch pad for the Davis attack.
Their defence was also well on top in the first half with Stefi Nwakor, Emma Phillips and Haley Seagrave excelling in the full back line.
The half back line of Grace Byrne, Tara Doherty and Hannah Prendergast were rock solid as were Shauna Tighe, Milleaha McCarton, Amy Mc Mullen, Jess Ogiboche, Shannon McMullan and Murray in the forwards.
The defence, marshalled by goalkeeper Faye O’Neill never let up during the final minutes during which late scores from substitute Jade Riordan closed the game out.
Davis just missed out on adding the Under 13 Division Four Shield to their haul after they lost out 2-7 to 4-7 against Round Towers of Lusk.
The Tallaght side raced into the lead with some fine scores taken by Aimee Collins, while Abby Ferns provided many assists and Oonasa Ni Bheolain was excellent in defence.
Davis’ faced into a stiff wind in the second half as Towers gradually got on top, despite the best efforts of the likes of Niamh Redmond.
Still, in their first year of competitive football the this Davis team has won a league and finished runners-up in the Shield.
