Davis minors pipped at final hurdle
THOMAS Davis minor hurlers were narrowly beaten in Sunday’s Minor ‘B’ Hurling Championship decider, going down 3-14 to 2-13 to Fingallians in Lawless Park.
In what proved to be a very tight game, the Kiltipper side got off to a flying start with Jack O’Connor (0-4) and Fionn Lynch (0-2) chipping in with a brace of points each to go ahead early on.
Fingallians then began to get control of the game as they grabbed two vital goals just before half time to lead 2-6 to 0-6 at the break.
Thomas Davis once again started the second half very well as substitute Daire Tipping blasted home a goal followed up by a second goal by Sean Benton.
Shane Mullarkey began to get a foothold around midfield in the second half hitting three points from play all from distance while Jack O’Connor continued to cause problems for the Fingallians defense with his direct running.
In defense Jamie Staunton, Evan Walsh and Taidgh Farrelly all stood out, but Fingallians hit a vital third goal with ten minutes remaining to push ahead, they then followed it up with three points in injury time to see out the game by four points.
A good campaign for the Kiltipper Road side reaching their first ‘B’ decider since 2017, the team will hope to build on this year as they head into 2024.
