Davis senior players kick a thousand points for charity

MEMBERS of Thomas Davis GAA Club have raised over €1,000 for Pieta House and The Irish Cancer Society as part of the #Gimme1000 global fundraiser.
Oisin Kelly, Ryan Deegan, Eoin Kirby, Dean Nolan and Chris Sadlier from Thomas Davis GAA Club all took part in the fundraiser on Saturday, February 20.

The global virtual fundraiser challenges participants to complete 1,000 reps of any exercise of their choice in 24 hours in order to raise funds for the two charities.
The fundraiser has raised €262,477.81 to date.
The #Gimme1000 movement was started by the guys at TrainM8, which is an initiative by three men from Clontarf who set it up to give people an outlet for physical activity throughout lockdown.
The campaign for the fundraiser read, “The past year has been tough on all of us, not least on the fundraising efforts of two incredible charities in The Irish Cancer Society and Pieta House. These two organisations have touched all our lives and the tireless, daily work they do has lasting effects on people’s lives across the country. Unfortunately, due to ever present Covid restrictions, they both have been unable to run their respective flagship events, Daffodil Day and Darkness into Light, for the second year in a row.”
Oisin Kelly, member of Thomas Davis GAA and organiser and co-ordinator of the event said: “Chris Sadlier and I would have played with Declan Monaghan from TrainM8 on the Dublin Under 21’s team when we won the All-Ireland.
“Declan got in contact and asked me would I be interested and any other Thomas Davis lads, and I said I would be delighted. It got traction on the senior teams WhatsApp and four of the lads decided to do it with me.
“We had to go about selecting what exercise we had to do, so we said we would put a football spin on it. We decided to kick a thousand points each. We went and did that last Saturday and it was great and raised €1,200- it shows the generosity out there at the moment.
“Thanks for the generosity of the people in Tallaght through this tough time for giving money to the charities that are close to a lot of people’s hearts.” Oisin added.
