Delight and joy were in abundance as the Leaving Cert results were revealed

SCHOOLS in Tallaght, Templeogue and Knocklyon where filled with joy as the Leaving Certificate results were unveiled on Tuesday.
The culmination of 14 years in the education system came for over 58,000 students on Tuesday morning, with a lot of students finding out how years of work in the school system looks on paper.

Excitement and cackles of nervous laughter filled the hallways of St Aidan’s Community School as students poured into the main office to collect their highly anticipated results.
Principal of the Jobstown school, Karen Quigley, expressed her delight to The Echo on the morning of results.
“I’d just like to say that we are delighted for all the students today, a big ‘thank you’ to all the staff for their hard work and to congratulate the students for all of their hard work,” she said.
“It was also a particularly good year for our Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) students, so we’re very happy and wish them well in their future.”

After getting into a photo with some of her students outside of the school, Year Head for Sixth Year, Sharon Dunne also highlighted the particularly good year for LCA students.
She exclaimed: “It’s one of the best years we’ve had for LCA ever – I’m really just so happy for them, they’re a great bunch.”
With more and more students opting to get their results online, Coláiste de hÍde had one-third of their results accessed online.

Incoming Principal of the Tymon school, Ms Joy Uí Mhurchadha said:
“People were very happy – we had a few in at half-nine this morning who ended up getting 100 points more than they expected.
“No student has told me that they can’t do what they want to do, they all have enough points to do what they want to do.
“This group is a very compassionate group and we are really going to miss them.”
Just 113 students sat their state examinations in St Colmcille’s Community School, and the Principal of the Knocklyon school, John McKennedy, highlighted how they have a real emphasis on community.
He said: “We are a community school and we would have a great sense of community here in St Colmcille’s, a lot of the students like to come and congregate after the summer to get their results.

“We had some very happy students – it was a solid set of results overall and, as with every group of Leaving Certificate students, there are some who got excellent results, but we have a lot who performed excellently within their own abilities and in accordance with that.
“We would expect 90 to 100 per cent of our students to move on to Third Level Education, they’re a very ambitious bunch and they have their sights set high with the hope of getting their university and college places once the offers come out from the CAO on Thursday.”
Around 160 students sat their Leaving Certificate in St Mac Dara’s Community College, with some excelling and others getting exactly what they needed to get over the line.
One of the Deputy Principals of the Templeogue-based school, Cormac Cassidy said: “We are very pleased with the results, there was a very high standard and there was a lot of students who even exceeded their own expectations.
“There was a few who were very close to 100 per cent but we do cater for all students, it means a lot when students, who may have been struggling, pass.”
For students who fell just short of the course they wanted, they can appeal the grades through the Appeals Application Service on www.examinations.ie for €40.
