Demolition of Cosgrave house given green light

PERMISSION has been granted by South Dublin County Council for the demolition of former Taoiseach Liam Cosgrave’s house at Beechpark on the Scholarstown Road.

In March of this year, Ardstone Homes Ltd lodged a planning application seeking the demolition of the single-storey house on the site and enabling works.

After requesting additional information in June, South Dublin County Council has this week granted permission for the works.

Once home to former Taoiseach Liam Cosgrave, the site was bought in 2018 by Ardstone Homes –which confirmed to The Echo earlier this year that they plan to develop a new housing scheme on the site in the near future.

Last year, excavation work was carried out on the land after the discovery of an early medieval enclosed settlement with – according to an archaeological assessment report lodged – human skeletal remains identified on site.

Calls have been made by the community and elected reps for clarity around the significance of the find.
