Denning maintains Ginetta podium run

DARAGH Denning made it four straight podium finishes in the Ginetta Junior Ireland Champion-ship in Mondello Park last weekend.

The Rathfarnham driver was coming into this round of the series off the back of a double podium in Kirk-istown and he recorded a strong run in qualifying at the Kildare venue.

Racing on a slippy track, he posted the third fastest time to secure a spot on the inside of the second row for the opening race.
As temperatures increas-ed slightly, the track dried up and Denning made a swift start off the line to remain right on the heels of the Harron brothers heading into Turn One.

He was one of only three drivers lapping under 1.06.5 and, while he did manage to close the gap on second to just over four tenths of second over the closing stages, he was unable to overtake and came home third.

He again started Race Two from Row Two and, while pushing the frontrunners, he had to be mindful of the challenge to himself posed by Morgan Quinn, whom he kept at bay as he secured another third place.

“Qualifying was a tricky start to the day with the wet conditions in the morning, but then in the two races I got two good starts” said Denning.

“I tried to go up the inside for second in both races but it just didn’t happen.

“Overall I think it was a good weekend, with two-thirds in the end. I think I drove well this weekend. The car was on rails so thanks to Morgan Dempsey and his team.

“Obviously a big thanks to my sponsors Dennings Crash Repairs and Ken Lawford Motors for their support. Without them I wouldn’t even be here this weekend,” he pointed out.

Denning will be back in Mondello for the next phase of the championship on September 17/18 and, looking ahead to a round on the International, he added “I like the big track. It’s something a bit different.

“It’s hard to string a lap together because it’s so long but I’ll be looking forward to that weekend,” he said.
