A LOCAL designer has woven herself into the history books after she embroidered Jill Biden’s outfit for the US presidential inauguration celebrations.
Rathfarnham native Laura Weber moved to the States in 2013, eventually opening her own embroidery and embellishment company in mid-town Manhattan.

A past pupil of Loreto Primary, Laura was approached by designer Gabriela Hearst to work on the dress and coat they had designed for Jill Biden, wife of America’s new President, Joe Biden.
Speaking with The Echo this week, Laura said she was embroidering Dr Biden’s dress, coat and mask from December 9 until the week of the inauguration.
“We drew out every flower for every US state and territory”, Laura said.
“We decided on every thread direction, every bead placement, every colour for each stem, petal and leaf.
“We continued to work on it all the way up until the Monday night before the inauguration.”
On Wednesday, January 20, Laura’s hard work and detailed creativity was applauded on the international stage, when Dr Biden wore the embroidered dress, coat and mask to the inauguration celebrations.

When asked how it felt to see Dr Biden wearing the finished outfit, Laura said she was “so completely honoured” and “humbled”.
Knitting and croheting through her primary school days , Laura remembers making and drawing from a young age – and winning an art competition with her classmates in the Nutgrove Shopping Centre.
“I had really artistic friends and family”, Laura said.
“I would always get colouring pencils and markers!
“I took every school art project so seriously, which I completely look back and laugh at.”
Studying textile design in the National College of Art and Design (NCAD), Laura specialised in embroidery for 3rd and 4th year.
“I love detail, really adore it, and I have always loved working at a miniture scale”, Laura told The Echo.
Looking back over the years, Laura said that her creativtiy was always encouraged, from her after school minder in Rathfarnham, who made her own curtains and weaved her own carpets, to her tutor in college.
Alongside her embroidery and embellishment company, Laura has progressed to her own brand, LW Pearl – a lifestyle and athleisure brand for men and women.
LW Pearl is the joint vision of Laura and husband Joseph, with the design concept marrying their love for luxury with an active lifestyle.
