‘Dilemma’ in the Civic
One of the most popular comedians in Ireland, Emma Doran, is taking her brand-new show, ‘Dilemma’, to the Civic.
After making an appearance on Graham Norton’s hugely popular show Last One Laughing Ireland, Emma will embark on a 21-date national tour in March.
The tour will end with two nights in Vicar Street in May, and in October, Emma will bring the shows to audiences in the UK.
It’s the post-apocalyptic world.
There’s only one contraceptive pill left.
Do you give it to your 20-year-old daughter or keep it for yourself?
Is it better to be a 40-year-old grandmother or a 40-year-old new Mum?
These are the dilemmas facing Emma Doran, aged 39 and 7/8’s, even though the most obvious outcome is neither.
If turning 40 is the start of something new, what is it the end of?
Emma Doran, originally from Tallaght but now living in Rathfarnham, is one of the most exciting stand-ups to emerge from these shores in years.
She’s crammed so much into the last 20 years of her life that she is now officially the voice of 3 generations.
This show was inspired by Emma turning 40 and her daughter turning 21 in the same year, having first started her career when she was 29 and being shocked at how far she has come.
It has been in the works since last year, when Emma was going into pubs around the country and “testing it out,” and while the stage at the Civic is a “different kind of dynamic,” testing the show out in pubs and clubs gave her an idea beforehand of how it would be received.
Emma’s plans after this tour is over include “getting a gin and tonic,” as well as performing in a summer festival such as Electric Picnic, taking the ‘Dilemma’ tour on the road, and doing a leg in the UK in autumn this year, with a show in the Leicester Square Theatre in London.
For helping her reach this point in her career, Emma would like to thank her “fella,” the audiences that have supported and paid to come and see her over the years, and herself.
