DO you recognise any of the boys in this 1962 photo of, what became, the first St Dominic’s juvenile team?

The photo was unearthed in recent years by Gay McCabe, who found it among his mother’s belongings shortly after the Newtown woman, Esther McCabe, passed away.

The photo was taken in Doran’s Field in 1962

While some of the schoolboys in the photo have been identified, including Gay McCabe (no 11) and Echo editor David Kennedy (no 13), there are still several whose names are unknown.

David Kennedy said: “The photo was taken at the first meeting of what would later become known as the juvenile team at Thomas Davis, but this was the start of the first juvenile GAA club in Tallaght.

“The gorup formed the first underage football team in Tallaght that became St Dominic’s and played at U15 level in 1963.”

The photo was taken at Doran’s field, which is now the site of the former Cuisine de France warehouse on the Belgard Road.

As it’s now considered a part of Tallaght’s history, it would be great to have the names of all of the boys in the photo.

The boys who are yet to be identified are numbers 12, 14, 15, 23, 26, 28, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 36, 37, 39, 40, 41 and 43.

Number 52 is Father Vincent (Fintan) Travers when he was a Dominican Brother who were instrumental in forming the team through the boy’s club in Tallaght village.
