DSD women back at the top of Premier

DSD AC’s women are back at the pinnacle of National League athletics following a tremendous performance by their 2019 squad in Tullamore last weekend.

Having dominated the competition for a seven-year stretch, the Dundrum club struggled to regain their crown over the next two seasons, but finished top this time around, four points ahead of closest challengers Galway.

Along with the coveted prize, the team will, once again, get the chance to represent Ireland at the European Club Champion-ships.

While things did not go to plan for Kate Doherty at the Under 23 European Championships in Sweden, hitting the first two hurdles in the semi-finals of the 100m hurdles, she certainly delivered here.

Indeed she contributed 18 points to the club’s total, winning the 100m flat and 100m hurdles and anchoring the 4×100 relay team to another nine points, with a blistering finish.

Others in sparkling form for the team were Sinéad Denny who won out in the 400m, clocking 54.90; and Meghan Ryan who followed suit in the 3000m in 10.00.1

Fiona Clinton emerged runner-up from the 1500m in 4.41.02 while there were second place finishes also for Charlotte Bourke in the 400m Hurdles (66.20) and Sonya McConnan in the 1500m Walk (7.59.85).

Emma Ryan came home third in the 800m as did Harriette Robinson in the Steeplechase, Emma Ryan in the Discus and Emmy Coffey in the Javelin.

Also playing their part in this impressive feat were Molly Hourihan (4x100m), Rachel Dunne (Triple Jump), Roisin Healy (Long Jump and 4x100m, Erika Doyle (200m, 4x100m and 4x400m) and Tai Daly (High Jump).
