Dublin Bus threatens to pull the plug on the 27 bus service

Dublin Bus has threatened to withdraw the 27 bus service in West Tallaght if anti-social behaviour continues.
The company was forced to alter the route of the 27 bus five times in less than two weeks last Friday due to incidents in the Brookfield area of Tallaght.
According to local Fianna Fáil councillor Charlie O’Connor, the ‘very real risk’ of losing the bus service was announced by Dublin Bus management at the monthly Dublin Bus / Luas Community Forum last week.
The meeting – attended by councillors, Dublin Bus management, staff, Gardai and community reps – heard details of a large number of incidents involving buses, which included reports of stone and missiles throwing, windows being broken, passengers being assaulted and youths ‘scutting’ on the back of buses.
Speaking to The Echo, Cllr O’Connor called on people in the community to protect their bus service and put pressure on those participating in anti-social behaviour.
He said: “We hope people in the community will take responsibility. You could sense the frustration of staff. The message that came across is that they can’t continue to tolerate this behaviour.”
Stopping the service at The Square would force commuters to walk more than half an hour to reach the areas of Fettercairn, Brookfield and Jobstown.
The Tallaght Central councillor also stressed the importance Tallaght Gardai in dealing with these matters.
