Dublin teams enjoy inter-county success in Lucan and Glenville
AFTER both RGSC and, later, Ringcommon were ruled out as venues for the Leinster Inter-County Championships because of green damage, the competition moved to Glenville and Lucan.
While the Kiltipper club stepped in to play host to the Under 16s and Ladies Inter and Junior divisions, all gents grades and senior ladies went to Lucan.
Dublin's Senior Ladies and Gents
The Dublin Senior Gents team retained the provincial crown with a six-shot victory over Louth who were followed by Offaly in third place.
Competing in a pool of 10 teams, this Dubs outfit, comprising of Lucan's Chris Gallagher and Gary Healy, John-Ross Crangle (Loughlinstown), Junior Smith (RGSC), George McGreal (Old County) and Anthony Malone (Lucan) came through in the singles after a very close doubles.
Not to be outdone, the Dublin Senior Ladies team of Ger Ward and Sheelagh Elmes (Portmarnock), Glenda Hoey (RGSC), Maree O’Toole (Shandon/ Lucan), Pauline Balfe, (Old County) and Phil Condron (Lucan) raised their respective title after emerging 19-point winners over closest rivals Kildare with Louth in third.
Made up of four Glenville players Colm O’Droighneain, Keith Potter, Joe O’Connor and John O’Keefe together with Stephen Needham of Lucan and David Troy of Erin’s Isle, the Dublin Junior Gents team finished runners-up to Kilkenny with Kildare in third.
In the Juvenile division, Westmeath emerge winners ahead of Offaly and Kildare before Dublin won out in the Junior Ladies category.
The team, which was made up of Glenville’s Breda Boyle and Christine Mulvey together with RGSC’s Miriam Salmon and Susan Ritchie, carded an eight point win over Westmeath with Louth finishing third.
Dublin’s Inter Ladies team of RGSC’s Ger Holland, Louise Grace and Marie Dooley together with Shandon’s Mary Fulham was third behind Offaly and winners Kildare.
The Inter Gents divisions saw Meath win out by eight points, with Louth pipping Dublin for second place on the back 9s.
