Eiscir Riada do enough to Knock-lyon

A RÍAN Ó Dochartaigh free at the death was enough for Gaelscoil Eiscir Riada to conquer Chnoc Liamhna in the battle for the Corn an Cheid.

Sitting three points behind Knocklyon with only moments left the clash, Esker’s Daniel Táth put the finishing touch on a brilliant team move with a goal to draw the sides level before Ó Dochartaigh pointed to win 3-14 to 5-7.

Gaelscoil Eiscir Riada celebrate their win over a tough Knocklyon

Eiscir Riada were fired into an early lead by Garda Westmanstown’s star centre-forward Ó Dochartaigh when he cut onto his right foot before firing across goal into the bottom corner.

Knocklyon responded through scores from Liam Ó Dúill and Callum Ó Duibhir as they racked up 2-6 between them overall, but they trailed by two points by the interval despite their efforts.

The second-half brought more scores from Esker’s Ó Dochartaigh as he chalked up 1-7 overall along with the midfield substitute Daniel Táth bagging 1-1.

Neck-and-neck heading into the games close, Knocklyon’s Fionnán Ó Conchúr turned up trumps netting twice and pointing but it was not enough to get them over the line as Ó Dochartaigh scored a late, late free to nick the win for Eiscir Riada.
