Esker Woods Residents Association is formed

AFTER an open meeting in the Penny Hill pub in December, the Esker Woods Residents Association plan to hold their official first meeting later this month.

In the run-up to the meeting Allan McGuinness and Tom Anglim had been in contact with the Larkfield Residents’ Association and the Esker Meadows Residents’ Association.

Mr McGuinness told The Echo: “Both Residents’ Associations were extremely helpful and offered a lot of support and guidance to us on how to set up and run a Residents’ Association.

They informed us of what worked for them and how they implemented activities in their estates.”

They also created an online survey in advance of the meeting which they were able to share on the Esker Woods Residents Page and the new Residents’ WhatsApp group.

The survey had a few short questions to look at people’s interest in having a residents’ association, if they would like to get involved in the group and also if they would be willing to pay a nominal fee to help with the costs of public liability insurance and the upkeep of the estate.

They then brought the information given by Larkfield and Esker Meadows Residents’ Associations along with information gathered in the survey to the open meeting allowing them to give a more informed response to residents.

A vote was taken at the open meeting and it was agreed that a Residents’ Association should be formed in Esker Woods. A steering committee was formed until the AGM can be held and a committee can be put in place.

Allan McGuinness was nominated as Chairperson, with Maureen Kelly Fox and Lisa Mahon Meyer as secretaries and Tom Anglim as treasurer.

An AGM will be held on Tuesday, January 21 at 8pm in the Penny Blue above The Penny Hill.

Mr McGuinness thanked South Dublin County Council for their support.

He said: “Bernadette Kaluzny, Area Community Officer, has offered to come to the meeting and give her support.

We’ve also had a good response from local councillors who are again planning to attend our meeting and give support including Mayor Vicki Casserly, Cllr. Liona O’Toole and Cllr. Paul Gogarty”.
