Exhibition to commemorate the power of adult community education

SENATOR Lynn Ruane launched a photovoice exhibition in the Russell Centre, Tallaght, last Friday to commemorate and celebrate the power of adult community education to transform lives, reports Steven Reid.

The exhibition will also run from July 10 to July 14 in An Cosán, Jobstown.

A graduate of An Cosán, and having completed courses at both the Jobstown community education centre and Trinity College, Senator Lynn Ruane plans to bring the exhibition ‘The Whirlwind and the Path’ to life.

“‘The Whirlwind and the Path’ comprises a collection of adult learners photos and narratives showcasing their experience of the Personal and Professional Development Certificate programme provided by An Cosán, Ireland’s largest community education organisation,” according to communications and information officer Fiona Murdoch.

Powerful testimonies from adult learners are now on display.

The CEO of An Cosán, which is Gaeilge for “The Path”, added that ‘The Whirlwind and the Path’ was about: “Being open to, and embracing, change. It is the culmination of a 12-month project that saw participants take photos that, symbolically or literally, reflected their journey into and through community-based higher education.

“Through their photos and narratives, our learners’ courage, resilience, tenacity, curiosity, and hunger to learn shine through,” she added.

Chantel Trytsman, who participated in the ‘The Whirlwind and the Path’ said: “Taking part was a great way to express myself; I could take any picture and write a story about what it meant to me. It made me think outside the box. It was a really mind blowing experience.”

The exhibition will also run from July 10-July 14 in An Cosán, Kiltalown Village Centre, Jobstown, and more information can be found HERE.
