FAI Cup clash will stand to Collinstown ahead of league
DESPITE going down 2-1 to Airtricity League outfit Galway United, Collinstown manager Kevin Carroll believes the game will stand to his team ahead of the new Leinster Senior League campaign.
The Neilstown side kick off their LSL Senior Division One campaign on Sunday when they face TEK United away.

“The lads did very well against the Airtricity League side Galway and we performed well considering the result,” Kevin Carroll told The Echo.
“I would consider this a really good pre-season work out for us. The game will give our younger players lots of experience which is great from our point of view.
“We were chasing them for most of the game and we would not be used to this type of game but the lads will take plenty from it.
“It was a really good work out and we can now focus on the start of the new term,” he said.
Collinstown will be playing in LSL Senior Division One having got promoted for the past three seasons and they face TEK this weekend.
The side put in a brave show in the First Round of the FAI Cup on Sunday but in the end they went down 2-1 to Airtricity League side Galway United in Whitehall.
The Neilstown outfit stunned the Connacht side when they broke the deadlock on 11 minutes when new signing Jaime Ahearn was quickest to react and fire past Kevin Horgan.
Galway had started the contest in positive fashion with Conor Melody firing wide from 25 yards out before Ahearn found the target.
However, soon after striker Ahearn found the net after a defensive slip-up, but Galway pulled back onto level terms when Conor Barry tapped home from close range following a defensive error.
But United soon got a grip of this contest when on the quarter-hour mark Barry found Conor Melody and he made no mistake to find the back of the net.
Indeed the lively Melody was unlucky not to score a third goal approaching half-time when his effort rebounded off the post.
Collinstown did have an opportunity to pull a goal back when Daniel Matthews crossed only for Ahearn failing to find the target.
The second half saw Melody miss two great chances, while Stephen Christopher also went close but failed to build on their lead.
However as the second half went on, Galway always seemed to have the upper hand and held out for a well-deserved place in the next round.
