Families and supporters delight with Dubs success

THE PROUD parents of two Dublin footballers who helped lead the boys in blue to victory in Croke Park on Sunday, where they secured their fourth consecutive All-Ireland title, have spoken of their joy at seeing their sons’ success.
Niall Scully (24), who has played for Templeogue Synge Street GAA Club since he was a child, scored the second goal of the match while his proud family looked on.
Niall’s father Brian, who is the vice-chairman of Templeogue Synge Street, told The Echo: “It was great, and the team take it all in their stride.”
Josie McManamon watched her son Kevin McManamon (31), who plays for St Jude’s in Templeogue, secure his 6th All-Ireland medal on Sunday.
“It was absolutely brilliant,” Josie told The Echo. “Kevin is over the moon, he’s absolutely delighted.
“After 17 minutes we were panicking, but deep down we always felt that they could do it.”
Mayor Mark Ward, who is a lifelong supporter of the Dubs, was also in attendance at the match and praised the team and their bainisteoir, Jim Gavin, who is from Clondalkin and played for Round Tower GAA Club in his youth.
Mayor Ward told The Echo: “It’s not typical for a team to win four All-Ireland medals in a row, and I truly believe that we’re in the midst of the greatest Dublin team of all time.
“I’ve been going to Dublin games since I was knee-high to a grasshopper, and this team stands out miles ahead of anything I’ve seen before – their passion seems to be getting stronger.
“[Winning the All-Ireland] is some accomplishment, and as a Clondalkin man it’s great to see the team being led by a manager from here.”
Mayor Ward, who also mentors the under-11 boys’ and under-13 girls’ teams in Round Tower, added that seeing the success of the Dublin team is helping to inspire the next generation of GAA stars.
