February 2017 Team of the Month – IT Tallaght Men’s Soccer Team

IT TALLAGHT men’s soccer team have enjoyed a very encouraging run of late.

A week after going all the way to the CUFL Division One Final, where they were pipped 2-1 by NUI Galway, the team captured the Umbro Plate following a thrilling 1-0 extra time victory over Waterford IT in the decider in Limerick.

The team has been knocking on the door of a return to the top ranks of the Colleges and Universities soccer and they went very close this year.

In their decider against Galway the Connacht side found themselves two goals up after 20 minutes, and although Tallaght reduced the deficit early after the interval courtesy of Phil Halligan and applied pressure late on, Galway held firm to record the monumental win.

A week later, they were lifting some silverware when they contested the Umbro Plate decider.

Tallaght, who had played the semi-final in the same competition only two days before, were focused and prepared going into the much-anticpated match against Waterford.

In the end it was only a Jordan Andre goal in extra time that separated the two sides with captain Jamie Mulhall proudly lifting the trophy.
