February 2018 Team of the Month – Rathfarnham Mens Masters CC Team
LOUIS McCarthy, Brian Fury, Ronan Kearns and Paul Fleming combined to record some club history for Rathfarnham WSAF when they captured the Men’s National Masters Cross Country Team Championship title in Galway.
Rathfarnham does have a proud history winning National Novice, Intermediate and Senior Cross Country Championships in the past, but this marked their first National Masters Over 35 CC team title.
Indeed they went very close to claiming it back in 2016 when they finished second to Donore Harriers
Yet this time around the club fielded a winning combination that surmounted some top teams representing the likes of East Cork, Letterkenny and defending champions Raheny.
First home for Rathfarnham in 28:01 was McCarthy who finished 17th overall and tenth in his division while Fury was three places further back in 20th, clocking 28:23.
Kearns finished up 30th in 28:50 while Fleming was the fourth scorer for the club in 33rd with a time of 28:57 as both runners combined to also help Dublin secure county bronze.
