Fighting Words victory for Coláiste de hÍde’s Julianna

A THIRD year Coláiste de hÍde student has had her writing picked to be a part of the Irish Times’ Fighting Words writing competition.

Julianna Ní Chúipéar, who is in Sorcha de Búrca’s English class, is the second student in as many years from the school to have secured recognition for her writing talent through the competition.

LIFE Fighting Words

Ms de Búrca said: “I’ve had the pleasure of teaching English to Julianna for the past two years and witnessing her grow and mature as a writer.

“Her confidence and style of writing is always evolving and will continue to do so throughout her life, I have no doubt.

“It’s fantastic to see that she’s been able to apply her skills and talent as a writer and win Fighting Words, and I hope that this is something that she can take with her for the rest of her life.”

Fighting Words is an annual collection of selected new writing from children and young people throughout Ireland.

Julianna’s short story will be published on the Irish Times’ website, alongside the work of other talented young writers from around the country.
