Get to know our finalists: Fionn Mac Domhnaill and Kelly Byrne
How long are you together?
Nine years.
How long are you engaged?
Since February 2017.
How did you meet?
Fionn: We met through work. We were working together a couple of months and we were getting on really well. I eventually decided to ask her out and she said yes!
Who proposed?
Fionn.
How did you propose?
Fionn: It was one year since Kelly was diagnosed with cancer so I decided to make this day a happy one. I booked us a room in a hotel in Wicklow for the night. I knew Kelly loved this hotel. I was so nervous but eventually overcame the nerves and asked Kelly to marry me!
What’s the most romantic/thoughtful thing you have ever done for each other?
Kelly: I think the proposal was so romantic. The hotel we went to is my favourite hotel so it was a special treat and the proposal itself was just perfect.
What would your ‘first dance’ song be?
Ed Sheeran – “Thinking out Loud”.
What would it mean to win this prize?
Kelly: It would mean so much to us as a family, if we won it would be a dream come true, especially after the last two years since being diagnosed with breast cancer. We could do with some luck and happiness, to be able to move forward as a family. I love Fionn so much. He is my best friend, my soul mate and a great father to our 3 beautiful children. He has been the one that has held this family together and makes me smile when I felt like giving up. He has seen me at my best and worst and never left my side. He is my rock and I’d love noting more than to say “I do” in front of our children, friends and family.
Fionn: It would mean so much to me. I would be able to marry Kelly, the woman I love and adore, and be able to call her my wife. We could have the day we have always talked about and dreamed of. With the last few years being a bit of a whirlwind it would be amazing to have something to look forward to for us as a family.
