Firefighter Wayne steps out to a well-earned break
FIREFIGHTER Wayne Quirke retired this week and is looking forward to a well-earned break.
Greenhills resident Wayne retired from Tallaght Fire Station this week after 28 years service in the busy fire station.
Prior to joining Dublin Fire Brigade, Wayne was a mechanic, working in the garage depot for Dublin Bus.
He worked for CIE as a mechanic and then progressed to the fire service in Tallaght, where he remained throughout his career.
“I loved it. It is a smashing job and there is a great brotherhood with the lads. I probably will miss it, and it will take some adjustment, but I will get there,” acknow-ledged Wayne.
Among those delighted to see Wayne out of harm’s way are his wife Adel and two children.

The danger days on the job are not something Wayne wanted to dwell on, as he recalled a job that is a crucial part of society.
“We could be called out as far as Naas, Celbridge, Clane – 15-hour shifts at night and nine-hour shifts during the day,” he said.
He may have spent many a year moving at speed towards danger, but the only travelling Wayne is looking forward to now are trips with his family and wife Adel.
“I’ll take it easy and do a bit of travelling later in the year.”
