Firhouse lad Bazunu on his way to City

SHAMROCK Rovers goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu is set for a move to the Etihad after negotiations with Manchester City were concluded in recent days.

The defending Premier League champions will reportedly fork out €400,000 plus add-ons in order to secure the services of the 16-year-old shot-stopper from Firhouse on a four-year contract.

It is a massive move for the youngster, but one that will not be made until next summer when he has completed his Leaving Certificate.

Bazunu produced a string of top-drawer performances in both domestic and Europa League competition for Stephen Bradley’s side, most notably in their scoreless draw against defending Airtricity League champions Cork City last month in which he produced a stunning stop from Kieran Sadlier’s penalty.

Injury brought his run to a temporary close with Alan Mannus taking over goalkeeping duties for the Hoops in the meantime.

Still, his impressive displays were enough to attract a lot of attention from the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea, Celtic and Liverpool also, but it is City who have won the race for the SSE Airtricity/SWAI Player of the Month for July.
