Football teams raise funds for Pieta House
FORMER football teams Greenfort United and Neilstown Rangers took on Alpine Express in the annual Sean Quinn memorial match in Clondalkin at the weekend.
The Coldcut Club match was in aid of Pieta House.
The fixture was set up four years ago by players who were coached by former manager John Quinn, father of Sean, who died by suicide in 2005.
Neilstown resident Aidan McEneff (36), a former Greenfort player, said John had a “big influence on us as kids” and the players “wanted to get together to do something”.
Aidan said: “John is pretty much the first point of call for everyone in Clondalkin. In some way, we are very lucky to have him. He does a huge amount of work for Pieta House.
“We play this game to help generate funds for Pieta House so they can help those who need assistance, and also to promote mental health issues.”
In the first three years, the fixture has raised €6k in funds for Pieta House, and organisers are hopeful of matching the figure from previous years.
Aidan said: “I want to say thank you to the Coldcut Club for opening their doors to us, Jimmy Strickland for providing food, Greenville FC, the players and sponsors for all their support. Without that, we wouldn’t be able to do this.”
