Four truckloads of waste removed from local stream

FOUR truckloads of waste and a burnt-out car have been removed from a Whitestown Stream with a councillor saying that the landmark is “being defiled” by the locals.
The drainage section of South Dublin County Council removed tons of waste from the stream, known locally as the Jobstown Stream, between Russell Square and Whitestown Industrial Estate.

Speaking to The Echo this week, Fianna Fáil councillor Charlie O’Connor explained how it’s been a local issue that has persisted for some time.
“There have been a number of representatives who said it to the council about the dumping in the Jobstown Stream, because it is a strong local issue,” he said.
“Thankfully the council did take action against the dumping, and they removed a staggering amount of material from the stream.”
Looking to the future, Cllr O’Connor is adamant that something needs to be done to prevent any further dumping in the area after a burnt-out car was also removed that was left alongside the stream.

“But now moving forward we need to make sure it does not continue and how we can stop it,” said the Tallaght Central councillor.
“It is a local amenity in Jobstown that is being defiled by, unfortunately, local people.
Litter is a serious issue.
“Nobody wants to be living in an area full of rubbish and this is an example of some people pretty much just misbehaving.”
